The Art of Transforming Communities
Art Education Graduate Symposium
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the annual Graduate Student Art Education Symposium at Concordia, which will take place in the department of Art Education.
This year, the symposium committee has worked towards showcasing both graduate students' and faculty members' research within and beyond the Concordia context, building links to researchers and practioners in other institutions and reaching out to potential Art Education graduate researchers (MA and PhD), especially those oriented to community art practices. We have invited graduate students from across all arts-based disciplines from Concordia as well as other universities to engage in presentations and discussions surrounding the theme: "The Art of Transforming Communities".
Keynote Speaker
Lily Yeh has worked on internationally significant community based art projects that are oriented to bringing the transformative power of art to the most impoverished communites in the world through participatory and multifaceted projects that foster community empowerement, improve the physical environment, promote economic development, and preserve and support indiginous art and culture.
