Anita Sinner (Art Education) and Jennifer Wicks (PhD Candidate) are co-investigators on a new Insight Grant starting this fall which will investigate community art education with colleagues at UBC, Ching-Chiu Lin (PI), Peter Grimmett and Rita Irwin.
Anita Sinner and Jennifer Wicks (RA) have recently returned from a research trip to Portugal and Spain in April and May. In Portugal, they delivered a two day workshop with colleagues Boyd White (PI, McGill) and Pauline Sameshima (Lakehead) on an Insight Development Grant investigating material culture and teacher education. This was followed by a three day think-tank in Granada, Spain, where we assembled our international art education team as part of a Partnership Development Grant investigating visual art dissertations. This team includes Rita Irwin (UBC), Jeff Adams (Chester), Timo Jokela (Lapland), Joaquin Roldan and Ricardo Marin Viadel (Granada), Anita Sinner (PI), and our team of research assistants from each university. And finally, Anita Sinner and Rita Irwin delivered invited lectures about a/r/tography to graduate students at the University of Barcelona.
Anita Sinner and Jennifer Wicks will be among researchers presenting at the upcoming national conference, CSSE, the Canadian Society for the Study of Education, in Calgary at the end of May, where in addition to a symposium presentation with the IDG team, they will provide an information session about the International Journal of Education through Art. Anita and Jennifer are co-editors and part of the incoming editorial team for this international peer-reviewed research journal, along with Rita Irwin (Principal Editor) and Nadine Kalin (Co-Editor).
Manon Douesnard, PhD 2013 Art Education, and Jean-Luc Murray, Director of Education and Community Programs at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), will present their research on multi-sensory approaches to art appreciation at the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The conference takes place in Milan in July 2016.
