The work of art history and photography students is on display as part of the Canada's Got Treasures! project.

On International Museum Day, May 18, virtualmuseum.ca launched Canada's Got Treasures!, an online space bringing together 52 treasures from nine national museums and heritage institutions. The website invites users from across the country to discover these museum treasures and to upload their own photos and videos of objects, artworks, buildings, people or locations of personal and cultural significance.

For the launch of the project, students in Loren Lerner's art history graduate seminar, Aspects of Curatorial Practice and Marisa Portolese's photography students created entries for the 52 Canadian treasures. These include specimens, artefacts and artworks such as the Deep Sea Cold Water Coral, the Cape North Lighthouse, Louis Bourgeois's Maman and Wally Dion's Star Blanket II. The students contributed short essays and photos inspired by each of the treasures. They also participated in writing most of the scripts for the videos that appear on the site.

Visit Canada's Got Treasures! and scroll down to the bottom of the web pages to see the first 20 contributions. Each week, over the next six months, two more treasures will appear with texts and creative images.
