Georgia Phillips-Amos receives Honorable Mention from The Drama Review
PhD Candidate Georgia Phillips-Amos received an honourable mention for the 2023 Best Graduate Student Essay Prize from The Drama Review (TDR).
TDR covers dance, theatre, music, performance art, visual art, media, sound, architecture, performative behavior, rituals, and sports—emphasizing the experimental, the critical, the provocative, and the interdisciplinary.
Titled "Attunement to the Great Near with Rebecca Belmore’s Wave Sound," the essay examines the Anishinaabe-kwe performance artist's set of listening trumpets Wave Sound (2017) through the lens of W.E.B. Du Bois’s rarely considered sci-fi “megascope.” Through this analysis, the author argues that Belmore's work invites a new mode of listening to the vital and resilient voice of the lands and waters beyond narratives of settler colonialism.
Read the essay in the Drama Review, Volume 68 , Issue 3 , September 2024 , pp. 178 - 194.
