When Louise Lamarre travelled to Lafayette, Louisiana last January to screen her recent documentary film Beyond Sight/ Voir l’invisible at the Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival, she didn’t expect to see so many of her former students there.

She certainly didn’t expect to a Special Recognition Award for Exceptional Contribution to Film Production Education – but that’s what she received.

“The organizers of the festival, Pat Mire and Rebecca Hudsmith realized six of my ex-students, who are professionals now, were in the competition with their films.”

“On the night of the Awards ceremony, Pat and Rebecca decided to offer me this award. It was truly an honour.”

Of Lamarre’s six former Concordia students, four of them won Awards:

Former student André Elias’s Prisonnier 9157 won Best Documentary Short Film

Former student Sebastien Messinger’s La nouvelle française won Special Mention Short Fiction films

Sara Bourdea, BFA (Film Production) 08, MFA (Studio Arts) 15, won The Blue Train Award for L'odeur après la pluie

Julien Cadieux, BFA (Film Production) 14, edited the documentary Zachary Richard, Cajun Heart, which won the Director’s Choice Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Another Concordia Film Production faculty member, Associate Professor Daniel Cross, received a Special Jury Mention Award for his film I am the Blues.
