CATS-Without-Borders is a small, dedicated and very experienced group of Creative Arts Therapists whose main goal is to bring the practices of the Creative Arts Therapies into new cultural contexts where they can be experienced, learned and practiced by indigenous mental health professionals in an effective and ethical manner.
This past December, Creative Arts Therapies Department Chair Stephen Snow, Music Therapist and Concordia alumna Shelley Snow, and Concordia Drama Therapy alumna Mahitab Seddik, in partnership with The Dorian Centre for the Healing Arts in Montreal, brought drama and music therapy to the Egyptian Association for Group Therapies (EAGT) in Cairo. This course provided training and education in creative arts therapies, and was adapted for advanced mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, and others) who learned techniques and methods from the two modalities as well as theories of creative arts therapies.
The second part of this exciting program will take place this summer, between June 17-23, and will include a supervised internship. The course aims to give mental health professionals the capability of incorporating music and drama therapy into their own therapeutic work.
