Drama Therapy student Shyam Anandampillai is awarded the 2015 Concordia Community Engaged Scholar Award

Congratulations to Drama Therapy student Shyam Anandampillai!

Shyam was awarded the 2015 Concordia Community Engaged Scholar award for his work as a Drama Therapy intern at the McGill University Sexual Identity Clinic (MUSIC).  This clinic provides specialized mental health care to LGBTQ individuals, couples, and families with sexuality and gender identity concerns.

In addition to his work with individuals, he led two Drama Therapy groups with members from the LGBTQ community - one, an adult group exploring internalized homophobia to address issues of shame and stigma. Second, a Transgendered and Genderqueer youth group, exploring gender through Drama Therapy and mask-making.

Shyam also reached out to other community organizations, namely Project 10, Gendercreative Kids clinic and the Beaconsfield LGBTQ group to invite their youth members to participate in this group.

Sponsored by the Office of Community Engagement and the Office of the Provost, Concordia Engaged Scholar Awards recognize leaders in community-engaged scholarship.
