Strong Concordia presence in Montreal's 2017-2018 Dance season

The 2017-18 contemporary dance season in Montreal has started and theatres and festivals are brimming with new works and performances by alumni and students of the Department of Contemporary Dance.

“This season’s performances really show the depth of Concordia’s involvement in the Montreal dance community, as well as the artistic versatility and diversity of our alumna and our students,” says Silvy Panet-Raymond, Chair of Concordia's Department of Contemporary Dance.

Quartiers Danses Festival

September 7

Brittney Gering (2017) and Greg Selinger (2013) performed in the Festival’s opening show The Man Who Traveled Nowhere in Time by Kyra Jean.

September 11 & 13

Milan Gervais and her company Human Playground specializing in outdoor performances such as Parking  could be seen at Place des Festivals part of Montreal’s 375th anniversary celebrations.

September 15 at 8 p.m

Guillaume Loslier-Pinard is performing in a new work by British choreographer Tim Casson. They met last year during an activity organized by the Festival and hosted in the Department of Contemporary Dance.  Catch Carte Postale  at the Place-des-Arts, 5^e Salle.

September 28, 29, 30 and October 1^st

Guillaume Loslier-Pinard and Aliah Schwartz will premiere their quirky and original No Need for Blue Jeans Here. In the same program Bailey Eng’s new solo Look challenges perceptions and is fed by a collaborative process with photographer Marie-Ève Dion. Tangente’s Danses Buissonnières Series in the brand new Wilder Building for dance.

November 16 to 19

A gender bending solo work,  La mécanique des dessous by Manuel Shink (2016) is part of the series Fluidité du genre – from Stereotype to Icon -  Transcending Masculinities.

November 23 to 26

Christine Germain (2007) established her dance company Stem in San Francisco after graduating from Concordia. She will be presenting a duet Corps Étrangers II in the series ‘L’après – Incorporer le bouleversement’ / the aftermath – embodying upheaval.

November 22 to 26

Take the young ones and the ever young at heart to see Emmac, Terre marine by Emmanuelle Calvé (2007) – a  poetic dance/large puppet work for 10-17 year olds.

Théâtre La Chapelle – scènes contemporaines has an exciting roster of works by emerging and established choreographers and ground breakers.

September 28 to 30 and October 4 to 7

Kicking off their season will be Parts & Labour Danse with co-choreographers/directors David Albert-Toth (2009) and Emily Gualtieri (2008). Their all-men group work  La Vie Attend features another alumni Milan Panet-Gigon (2015). The work, co-produced by Danse-Cité will be performed.

November 29 & 30 PAUSE… go to Usine C  where David Albert-Toth will be performing ‘Some Hope for the Bastard’ by Frédérick Gravel.

Winter - Spring 2018

March 22 to 31,  2018

Then in the Spring, at Théâtre La Chapelle, Katie Ward and Dana Michel (2006) are featured in Another Danse-Cité co-production at La Chapelle. « PLUTON - ACTE 3 carries on the desire to see mature performers caught in the orbit of young choreographers. For the third act,  it’s Benoît Lachambre's turn to collaborate with the inimitable Dana Michel and Peter James’s turn to check into the absurd universe of Katie Ward».

April 23, 24, 27 and May 1st, 2018.

Expect a riotous multidisciplinary happening with alumni Andrew Tay in collaboration with François Lalumière and Katrzyna Szugajew’s ‘Fame Prayer / Eating. Usine C

Emmanuelle Lê-Phan (2003) co-founder with Elön Hoglund of the urban/contemporary dance company Tentacle Tribe opens up about her background and experience as choreographer and also as performer for the likes of Cirque du Soleil, Rubberbandance.
