Johanne Sloan - "City Talks Series" - Thoroughly Modern Montreal

February 28, 2013
|

"City Talks" is a four-part series presented by the McCord Museum and Heritage Montreal and offering lectures and presentations by leading Montreal thinkers and makers. All talks are moderated by Dinu Bumbaru from Heritage Montreal and Sarah Watson from the McCord Museum. The conference themes resonate with the McCord Museum's research areas, collections and exhibitions and with Heritage Montreal's commitment to the promotion and protection of Greater-Montreal's architectural, historic, natural and cultural heritage. All talks offer opportunities to reflect on Montreal's past present and future.

Expo 67 catapulted Montreal into the international limelight and the Expo site proposed utopian ideas for modern urbanism, architectural design and cultural exchange. What is the legacy of Expo 67 in relation to current design and architectural projects that represent Montreal's international image? How does the material and visual culture of Expo 67 form our understanding of this critical moment of change in Montreal?

Speakers:

Clément Demers: Architect, Urban Planner and General Director of Quartier Intérnational de Montréal.

Johanne Sloan: Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, Art History, Concordia University and Deputy-Director of the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art.
