Mat Karas is a ceramic artist from Montreal, Quebec. Currently teaching in Baltimore
at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and also formerly in Halifax at the
Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), Mat completed his graduate studies
at Alfred University in 2009. He has since exhibited both nationally and
internationally. Mat’s work weaves together old and new ceramic techniques to make
objects and installations that play with the notions of the handmade, function and
technology, using the ceramic medium as a language for mediating art and daily life.
