Strong JMSB Presence at Dawson Entrepreneurship Week
Entrepreneurship Week will run from November 12 to November 15 at Dawson College, but the event has been part of Tim Miller and Lucy Huiting Zhou’s lives for months now. The Concordia business students are completing an MBA Community Service Initiative (CSI) project that has them working as interns at Dawson.
The MBA CSI at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) was founded by Program Coordinator, Dave McKenzie to encourage and promote community service by connecting business students with community organizations, institutions and small businesses. Through the program, students provide consulting services, business counseling, coaching and technical assistance to groups in the community to whom these resources would otherwise be unavailable.
Under the supervision of Carmen Kuczewski, lecturer at JMSB, Miller and Zhou are providing support to Project Lead, Madeleine Bazerghi, who works as an education advisor at Dawson. Among the many activities at Entrepreneurship Week, the event will feature networking opportunities for young entrepreneurs, lectures, a workshop series and interactive kiosks, designed to bring students together with successful entrepreneurs and support organizations.
The culminating moment of the week will be Dawson’s Den. Modeled on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, this event will give aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of experts from various industries.
A number of JMSB MBA students have volunteered to play a mentoring role to participants in the event. Sarah Cundiff, Omar Alzubi, Kristiina Aro and Sumit Kapoor will be coaching Dawson students prior to their pitch to the judges’ panel. JMSB professor and Director of the MBA Program, Bakr Ibrahim will be one of the judges.
