JMSB Students Win Sustainability Prize in Singapore
On the heels of Concordia’s MBA program being ranked second greenest in the world by Corporate Knights magazine, a group of undergraduate students from the John Molson School of Business have returned from the Asian Business Case Competition (ABCC) at the Nanyang Business School in Singapore with the event’s top sustainability award.
Jesse Carmichael, Jamie Malorni, Samuel Nadeau, and Aimee Thompson, coached by MBA alumnus Mark LeGuen, won the first phase of the competition which took place within the context of a Sustainability Symposium.
The symposium explored sustainable practices around the world by having competing teams tackle sustainability issues using real-life examples of successful initiatives. The JMSB team’s recommendations pointed to Concordia and its LEED silver-certified Molson Building as models of sustainable planning and design.
The second phase of the competition involved a 40-hour preparation period for a 15-minute presentation of recommendations, followed by 15 minutes of questions from the judges. The case was about Mercy Relief, a disaster relief and development organization, located in Singapore. JMSB was edged out of the competition in the semi-finals by the eventual winner of the competition, Chulalongkorn University.
The John Molson Competition Committee (JMCC) would like to thank coach Mark LeGuen for the stellar job he did preparing the team for the competition.
The JMCC also thanks Mark Haber, head coach and advisor to the Competition Program, for his boundless commitment.
The Committee would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Exclusive Partner PepsiCo Foods Canada, Premier Partner Pfizer Canada, and Database Sponsor PODIO for their support and encouragement of the case competition program.
