JMSB students recognized for making a difference in Canadian communities
A team of undergraduate students from Concordia’s John Molson School of Business was awarded the 2014 Tim Hortons Making a True Difference Project Fund Best Project award by Enactus Canada, the country’s largest student leadership development organization, and Tim Hortons.
The project, Eco Youth, focuses on the lack of sustainability education in local youth centres and is designed to address the feeling of social isolation and lack of confidence experienced by many youths, particularly that of first generation immigrants. This year alone the team empowered 20 new Canadian teens.
The team was presented with the award at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Calgary, where Ron Abraira, a lecturer in the Department of Management and the team’s faculty advisor, took home the John Dobson Fellow of the Year award – a prize that recognizes the faculty advisor that went above and beyond his mandate. “Ron’s support was outstanding,” says Julie Marin, president of Enactus Concordia. “We would not be where we are today without him.”
“In fact,” she adds, “none of this would be possible without the institutional support we have received. Enactus Concordia is growing, and every year we add new members to our team, impact more people and change more lives. We make JMSB and Concordia shine, while improving the quality of life and standard of living in our community. We are tremendously proud – This has been our best year yet.”
