To conduct their research into how better equip supervisors and their subordinates, Chen and his colleagues, Yu-Shan Hsu, Affiliate Assistant Professor and Adjunct Lecturer, and Alexandra Panaccio, Associate Dean Accreditation and Faculty Relations, and associate professor in the department of Management, are seeking supervisors and subordinates to complete one short survey.
Call for survey participants: Enhancing trust and commitment amid COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of day-to-day life, notwithstanding how business is conducted. At Concordia University, adapting to online education has been at the forefront of discussion, but three researchers at the university’s John Molson School of Business are exploring how to better equip both supervisors and their subordinates to maintain, or increase, the levels of trust and commitment between both parties.
“In any type of organization, supervisors can play a key role in establishing trust and commitment with their employees,” explains Yu-Ping Chen, associate professor in the department of Management, who is one of the key researchers on this project. “We want to know what the roles of supervisors and subordinates are to build trust and commitment during unprecedented times when employees face tremendous uncertainty, such as their job security and wellness.”
For supervisors,
1. You will participate in the Supervisor survey (15 minutes), and,
2. Ask at least one of your direct subordinates to complete the Subordinate survey (15 minutes), although you are encouraged to send the subordinate survey link to all of your immediate subordinates.
We assure full confidentiality of responses. Once we receive the completed Supervisor survey from you and at least one completed Subordinate survey from your subordinates, you and each of your participating subordinate will receive a $20 Tim Hortons’ gift card as a token of appreciation.
For subordinates,
1. You will participate in the Subordinate survey (15 minutes), and,
2. Ask your direct supervisor to complete the Supervisor survey (15 minutes).
We assure full confidentiality of responses. Once we receive the completed Subordinate survey from you and the completed Supervisor survey from your supervisor, you and your supervisor will both receive a $20 Tim Horton’s gift card as a token of appreciation.
If you are both a supervisor and a subordinate, you are asked to choose only one role and follow the respective instructions.
For all additional questions, participants are asked to contact Yu-Ping Chen directly.
“We thank all interested participants in advance for their time, and look forward to analyzing and sharing the results,” concludes Chen.
