Kenya attack

Al-Shabab, a Somali al-Qaeda-linked group, claimed responsibility for the assault on Mpeketoni, Kenya and resulted in the death of 48 people. The attack highlights the growing incidents of Islamic extremist violence in a country that was once viewed as the bastion of stability in East Africa. The U.S. ambassador made Kenya's entire coastal region off-limits for embassy employees after the attack. Kyle Matthews, senior deputy director in the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS), can share his insight into the current instability in East Africa and the human rights violations that are occurring.
