New anti-spam legislation

Canada has just enacted new legislation governing the use of electronic messaging to market an organization and its products or services. As of July 1, businesses or individuals that send customers and prospective customers commercial messages via emails, texts or social media without their consent are facing hefty fines. The new legislation calls for penalties of up to $1 million for an individual and up to $10 million for a company found in violation. Jordan LeBel, director of the Executive MBA program at the John Molson School of Business can provide perspective on the impact of the new legislation on small businesses.
