Algae in Lake Erie

Lake Erie was declared dead in the 1960s and ‘70s, but in recent years it has been coming back to life with the help of scientists. However, phosphorus and nitrogen from farm runoff have contributed to new algal blooms that led to restrictions on drinking water for more than 500,000 people in and around Toledo, Ohio. Peter Stoett, director of the Loyola Sustainability Research Centre, can share his perspective on why all of our Great Lakes are at peril.
