On Wednesday, August 13, breaking ranks with other European countries, France’s President, François Hollande, announced that he would send arms to Kurdish authorities fighting Sunni militants who are attacking members of the Yazidi religious minority in northern Iraq. Kyle Matthews, senior deputy director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, can share his expertise on why the Yazidis are being attacked and how this has turned into a humanitarian crisis.
