Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg

The newly opened, Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, is already at the center of controversy over its exhibitions. The First Nations group, A Tribe Called Red, refused to participate in the official opening because the museum hasn’t used the term “genocide” in describing the treatment of First Nations people in Canada. Erica Lehrer, associate professor in the Department of History and the Canada Research Chair in Post-Conflict Memory, Ethnography and Museology, can share her insight on the challenges of curating “difficult” material.
