Concordia will host the 9,000 delegates of the 2010 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The university will be organizing many events and activities to highlight Concordia's creativity and build upon the theme of Connected Understanding/le savoir branché, including Nexus, a 'comprovisational' (composition + improvisation) journey that will interpret Congress in a unique musical form.

Nexus is the brainchild of Canada Research Chair in Inter-X-arts and music professor Sandeep Bhagwati. Through a dedicated wireless network being built for the project, four to six New Music Performance students--each with a belt-mounted speaker system--begin in different locations throughout the buildings being used by Congress and will play and improvise their individual musical parts of a Bhagwati composition while 'jamming' with the others through the network. As they move through Congress wearing "Follow Me" t-shirts, they will gather delegates and will come together for a performance atop the MB Building Cloud Deck for a concert at 5:30 p.m.
