Obtaining accurate information during a crisis can be a challenge, but thanks to the hard work of Darren Dumoulin, Senior Advisor on Emergency Management, and his team, faculty and staff now have options.

During emergencies, one of the most effective ways to share time-sensitive information is using Short Message Service (SMS), sending brief text messages to cell phones. While students are automatically registered for the service (provided they have a cell phone number on file), faculty and staff are encouraged to sign up for messaging through the Portal: Once logged in, click on Messaging. Subscribers can expect to receive about five messages over one year.

There has also been a Twitter account created that will be used for emergency notification. Follow the Twitter feed here to receive tweets about emergency situations that may affect university operations.

People also have the option of receiving tweets on their cell phones by texting "follow concordia911" to the number 21212.

For those without a cell phone, there’s the emergency hotline. Call extension 8800 to hear a recorded message with the latest updates on the status of an emergency and affected university operations. The number may also be called from off-campus by dialling the main university number first: 514-848-2424, ext. 8800.

For more information on emergency preparedness, contact the Darren Dumoulin, Senior Advisor on Emergency Management, at extension 5638 or by e-mail at darren.dumoulin@concordia.ca.
