Energetic win for John Molson School of Business
Undergraduates from Concordia’s John Molson School of Business have won the inaugural Alberta Energy Challenge, a business case competition that explored challenges faced by the energy sector. The JMSB student victors were Benoit Chevrier, Alain Grenier, Christopher Labrecque and Jonathan Lawrence-Ruel.
Held at the University of Alberta from September 16 to 19, the Alberta Energy Challenge featured 10 teams who vied for the top spot. A team from the University of Saskatchewan earned second place and third place went to Penn State University.
Teams of four undergraduate students from each participating institution were given 36 hours to research and develop a comprehensive and innovative solution to challenges faced by energy firms. The JMSB team prepared 150 slides for the live and technical case presentation on Cenovus, an oil and gas company.
Mark Haber, Advisor to the JMSB Undergraduate Competition Program, sent kudos to the team and its lead coach, Amr Ezzat. “Amr taught them a lot about the energy industry in a very short time – they started knowing nothing about the industry and were finally capable of inspiring the judges with their depth.”
