Teen radioheads get break from CJLO
CJLO 1690 AM, Concordia University’s radio station, has launched a new after-school workshop series to encourage teenagers 16 and up to consider careers in broadcasting.
As of September 30 and for the next three months, eight youth will be paired with a mentor to guide them through radio fundamentals: production, news writing, broadcasting, live band recording, documentary production and social networking for broadcast.
At the end of workshops, each team will have produced a 20-minute piece that will air on CJLO. Mentors will work with teen trainees in a one-on-one setting and students will have the freedom to produce pieces that matter to them.
Funded by the Community Radio Fund of Canada, the initiative is part of the CJLO mission to train and support future broadcasters. Most trainees will be from Montreal’s James Lyng High School, although two positions remain available for aspiring radioheads. Workshops are free and CJLO can supply a bus pass for students who need transportation to the Loyola campus.
