Business education without prerequisites

New courses for those who want to improve employability, advancement opportunities and entrepreneurial skills

Anyone who’s ever wanted to take practical business courses – without impact on their program or without the usual prerequisites – will want to learn more about the new offerings from Concordia’s School of Extended Learning (SEL).

The SEL has introduced three complementary credit certificates: Business Practices, Marketing Practices and Human Resources.

The part-time courses, which can lead to a 30-credit certificate, were launched for an underserved market: people who want to test the waters of business education, people who may lack prerequisites or professionals who wish to bolster their knowledge in a complementary field. Individuals who are contemplating starting a business or are in the process of career transition are also a focus of these certificates.

The evening courses were first introduced this fall, on a pilot basis, as a way to increase accessibility to business studies. Some 60 students are currently registered in the pilot, although that number will significantly rise when complementary credit courses are offered to the general public as of January 2011.

Places are limited so those interested should apply and register early.

There will be an information session on Tuesday, November 23, at 6:30 p.m. in 207/209 of the Faubourg Tower, 1250 Guy St.
