The welcome mat is being rolled out for prospective students this week.

Concordia University will host its annual Open House on October 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on both the Loyola and Sir George Williams campuses.

During Open House, prospective students, their parents and the general public get a unique opportunity to ask staff and students questions on everything from Concordia’s academic programs and admission requirements to housing options and online application procedures.

Events unfold at four locations of the Sir George Williams and Loyola campuses: the Atrium of the J.W. McConnell Building (1400 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.); the John Molson School of Business Building (1450 Guy St.); the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (1515 Ste-Catherine St. W.) and at the Richard J. Renaud Science Complex (7141 Sherbrooke St., W.).

During Open House, visitors can obtain campus tours, drop by general information sessions, peruse faculty and department displays and get invaluable feedback in advance of portfolio day.

A series of talks are also part of Open House. Highlights include:

  • “Leprechauns, Shamrocks and Guinness: Irish Studies and Irish Stereotypes,” a presentation from Michael Kenneally of Concordia’s School of Canadian Irish Studies;
  • “How to think about animal suffering: some simple ways,” a session by Sheila Mason of the Department of Philosophy;
  • “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you who your are: Mapping the human community through food,” a talk from Norma Baumel Joseph from the Department of Religion;
  • “Cooling the world: One roof at a time,” by Hashem Akbari from the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering.
