Facelifts for two buildings
A structural upgrade of Concordia University’s Faubourg Tower, at 1250 Guy St., has been scheduled for Spring 2011.
The first phase, which dealt with upper levels of the Guy St. side of the building was completed last summer, while this second phase will focus on the west side.
The project stems from a routine inspection which identified some irregularities in certain sections of the building envelope. In preparation, safety netting will be installed on the north and south corners of the building and over the center core of the west wall in mid-November.
This a preventative step, since winter is just around the corner and the effect of freezing and thawing could further affect the curtain wall of the building. The work should have no impact on operations in the Faubourg Tower.
Also slated to begin in March 2011 is a project to replace the building envelope of the Guy-Metro (GM) Building at 1550 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W. The project will include the entire exterior cladding, the renovation of the elevator cabins and building entrance lobby. Heating and cooling systems will also be renewed to increase energy efficiency as well as comfort and health for occupants.
When the project is completed in December 2011, the structure will have the same look as the adjacent Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Building and the John Molson School of Business.
