Gerry Hughes is the new director of the Concordia Institute for Co-operative Education. Hughes first joined Concordia as a Business Development Manager in 2006, following positions in the private sector at Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP), Royal Bank and First Canadian Title.

In January 2007, Hughes was appointed director of Career Management Services at the John Molson School of Business.

A Concordia alumnus with a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration and Economics, Hughes replaces Interim Director and Principal Chen F. Huang.

“We all feel very lucky to have Gerry on board,” says Ollivier Dyens, Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, who announced Hughes’ appointment on November 5. “Gerry has extensive experience in both the private sector and Concordia and has impressive leadership skills. He will be instrumental in helping us move experiential learning into a central position at Concordia.’ Dyens also mentioned how grateful the university was for the work of Chen F. Huang as Interim Director.

The Institute for Co-operative Education allows students to alternate between periods of formal academic study with on-the-job practical experiences in private industry, not-for-profit organizations and government agencies. Co-operative education got its start at Concordia in 1980.
