Kimsooja to visit Concordia December 2
Renowned artist Kimsooja has been invited to speak at Concordia as part of the Studio Arts Visiting Artist Program, to discuss her exhibition Being in the World.
The exhibition, on display at the Musée d'art de Joliette (about 50 km from Montreal) until January 9, 2011, features two video works: Alfa Beach (2001) from the Bottari series and A Laundry Woman — Yamuna River (2000).
The artist evokes, with quiet simplicity and lyricism, the relationship between the human body and nature, immobility and movement, and life and death, in images that are staged like a tableau vivant.
Born in Korea in 1957, Kimsooja has lived and worked in New York City since 1999. She enjoys international recognition and her works are regularly exhibited in many venues across the world.
Being in the World, curated by Gaëtane Verna, Executive Director at the Musée d'art de Joliette, is the first exhibition of Kimsooja's work in Quebec.
Kimsooja will give her talk on December 2 at 12:30 p.m. in Room EV 1.615, Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (1515 Ste. Catherine St. W). For further information, call 514-848-2424, ext. 4227.
