In an effort to conserve resources, everyone is expected to turn off all unnecessary equipment (computers and peripherals, photocopiers, laboratory apparatus, etc.) and lights during the university closure period.

Unless specified below, departments and services will be closing at the end of the day on December 23 and reopening the morning of January 3.

Here is a breakdown by area:

Facilities

The institution takes certain measures to save energy during this time. Temperatures will be set back in all buildings, with the exception of the Richard J. Renaud Science Complex (SP, 7141 Sherbrooke St. W.) to avoid jeopardizing laboratory experiments.

All ventilation systems that are not absolutely essential will be turned off, with some exceptions in the Henry F. Hall (H, 1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.), Guy Metro (GM, 1550 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.) and Faubourg (FB, 1250 Guy St.) buildings. In the Hall Building, ventilation systems will operate on the weekend schedule, except on December 25 and January 1, when they will remain off both days. Exceptions will also be made in some rental properties where other continued commercial operations dictate less restrictive energy conservation measures.

All domestic water heaters (tap water) will be turned off, except in the Hall Building.

All unnecessary lighting will be turned off.

If the above measures pose a problem in a particular area, contact Stéphan Drolet at 514-848-2424, ext. 3781, send a fax to 514-848-4206 or email to discuss your concerns, arrange for a different schedule of operation, or offer any further energy conservation suggestion you might have.

IITS Helpline

The Helpline run by Instructional and Information Technology Services (IITS) will be open exceptionally from December 27 to 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those who need computer help. Contact the Helpline by calling 514-848-2424, ext. 7613, or by email.

Employee Assistance Program

Despite the closure of the university, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will remain available to employees around the clock, seven days a week. For support and service, contact Concordia’s external provider, Shepell-fgi, at the following numbers:

Confidentiality will be assured. For more information on the EAP see the website.

Another service offered by Shepell-fgi is the new Work-Health-Life website where employees can seek counselling or advice on a wide variety of topics, both work- and family-related.

Le Gym

Members who sign up now for the winter 2011 session can train until December 22 at no charge. Le Gym (1515 St. Catherine St. W.) will close at 10 p.m. on December 22 and will reopen January 3.

Libraries

Both of Concordia’s libraries will be closed from December 24 to 27 inclusively. The Webster Library (1400 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.) will reopen for study December 28 at 8:30 a.m. and will remain open around the clock until midnight on December 30. During this time, access is available only through the Mackay St. entrance. The Vanier Library (7141 Sherbrooke St. W.) will be open from December 28 to 30 inclusively from 9:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Both libraries will reopen under normal operating hours January 3. For information, call 514-848-2424, ext. 7701.

Shuttle bus service

The Shuttle bus service will run according to the exam schedule from December 8 until December 23. The last shuttle buses will leave both campuses at 7:20 p.m. on December 23 and regular service will resume January 3.
