The Stinger Dome is available to everyone
This winter, the Stinger Dome is offering its very reasonable 15°C interior temperature to anyone who wants to get inside and get some exercise.
Concordia students are welcome to use the Dome between 4 and 6 p.m. nearly every day until it closes in late-April. (Check Athletics website for complete schedule.) By simply showing valid student ID, students can use the facilities and various bits of equipment to enjoy soccer, touch or flag football, rugby, or ultimate frisbee.
The fields’ availability and configuration are subject to change, so if hearts are set on open time for a specific time and day, it might be best to call and check ahead.
For Concordia staff and faculty, along with other community members, the Dome is available for rental. Prices range from $100 per hour for a quarter field (98 x 180 feet) up to $600 per hour for the entire field (413 x 180 feet). A form for rental requests is available on the Stinger Dome website.
During the Dome’s inaugural 2009-10 season, more than 50 different groups rented the facility.
The facility is primarily available for a wide variety of sports, as well as the newly established golf driving range six days a week. Stinger Dome Account Coordinator Alberto Moreira says they’ve welcomed people playing lacrosse, baseball, even a marching band practice. He’s even welcomed a request from a group of McGill students wishing to conduct experiments on a prototype airship model in a wind-free temperature-controlled environment.
“We have to take safety into account, but obviously we’re open to suggestions,” he laughs.
The Dome is also available for tournaments. Same rental rates apply, but Dome staff are happy to make arrangements to accommodate different field configurations. Not every weekend has openings this winter and spring; Moreira suggested contacting him for more information.
Upcoming events at the Stinger Dome:
The Arts and Science Federation of Associations (ASFA) will be holding a soccer tournament, February 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The charity event, which is raising funds for Humanitarian Affairs, Concordia University (HACU), is open to anyone interested in playing. The cost is by donation with a minimum of $10 per player, seven players per team.
For those with kids out of school for March break, the Dome is offering the Stingers March Break Soccer Camp. Kids aged 8 to 15 can join Stingers soccer coaching staff February 28 to March 4, 9:30 a.m. to noon each day, to hone their footy skills. The cost is $165, t-shirt included.
