Concordia hosts local TED conference
The recipe is quite simple: a dozen speakers from all walks of life, an enthusiastic and engaged audience and a stimulating environment. Stir, serve warm: Meet TEDxConcordia.
TEDx is the small brother of TED — the conference that publishes its talks at TED.com to disseminate “ideas worth spreading.” Organized locally and independently, TEDx events are held across the world.
“It’s all about a clash of diverse and intriguing ideas,” says David Chouinard, one of the organizers. From microbiologists to toy designers and finance majors, the conference aims to showcase Montreal’s very best.
TEDxConcordia 2011 will feature speakers such as Adele McAlear, investigating the changing meaning of death in the context of our increasingly online lives, and Concordia professor Gad Saad, exposing our buying habits from an evolutionary perspective.
“It’s quite humbling to get a glimpse into the incredibly diverse and inspiring world out there,” says curator, Nicholas Meti. TED events are exciting and fast-paced, Meti says, and have been likened to an “awe-inspiring brain massage.”
TEDxConcordia will take place on Saturday, February 19, from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the Eric Maclean Center for the Performing Arts, 2477 West Broadway (in front of the Loyola campus).
Tickets are on sale online.
