Mike Finnerty and the core team from the CBC Radio morning show “Daybreak” headed back to school for a live broadcast from the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV Building).

Concordia threw open its doors to accommodate the team as they broadcast between 5:30 and 8:30 a.m.

It was actually a return to Concordia for several members of the “Daybreak” gang; the list of illustrious alumni includes senior producer Meredith Dellandrea, Gr Dip (Journalism) '99, producer/director Dimitri Katadotis, BA (Liberal Arts College) '93, traffic reporter Monique Lacombe, BA (Journalism) '02 and sports reporter Sonali Karnick, BA (Communications & Journalism) '00. Concordia President Fred Lowy led the parade of guests on the program, proudly giving voice to the spirit on campus; one that celebrates cultural diversity, community connections and academic achievement.

Adding their voices to the CBC program were volunteers on a project that has brought sustainable housing to Uganda: Andrew Dolan, master’s student in design, Liam O’Brien, engineering PhD candidate and Jamie Robinson, Executive Director of the Concordia Volunteer Abroad Program (CVAP). This project was spearheaded by pk langshaw, a professor of design and computation arts, who was invited to speak about Concordia successes.

"Daybreak" also spoke with three Concordians on the quality of student writing and how to best test writing skills. They spoke with Provost David Graham, Norman Ingram professor and chair of the Department of History, and visiting scholar George Harrison.

Roger Côté, Acting Vice-President, Services, also clarified the university’s position on the Muslim Student Association's request for additional space for Friday prayer. Vladimir Pavlicik, associate director of campus recreation, discussed Concordia’s Le Gym and the high-quality equipment available to members. Concordia Stingers coach Les Lawton, who is also coach of the Team Canada women’s hockey coach, was interviewed regarding their recent win in Turkey.

Student leaders were also invited to chat on the program. At the mike were Heather Lucas, president of the Concordia Student Union, and Robert Sonin of the Graduate Students’ Association.
