The programme is available through the School of Extended Learning (SEL). It offers eight levels of intensive courses to international students who need to improve their English language skills before they can take Concordia’s credit English as a Second Language courses. In 2011, 450 students are taking classes in anticipation of enrolling at Concordia.

Working in small groups, the students in 13 classes in levels 5, 6 and 7 each chose a theme and prepared posters and decorated their rooms. Their work was presented to visiting students from other classes, including those from levels 1 to 4 and 8, along with faculty and office staff from the Centre for Continuing Education. In addition, representatives from Concordia’s Student Success Centre, Campus Recreation, and the LIVE Centre came to present their services to the group.

Altogether, about 400 visitors checked out the posters and heard the short presentations on a wide range of themes including: space, community services, vampires, music, TED.com, cars, online learning, hockey, world landmarks, restaurants, TV shows, global warming and art.

This event helped reinforce that strong bonds CELI students feel towards their school, and each other, and it provided them with a showcase for their research and speaking skills. Their hard work and careful preparation paid off is a colourful, fun, informative and memorable afternoon.
