Guy-Metro Building construction update
The large-scale construction project to refurbish the Guy-Metro (GM) Building continues with demolition work inside the building. As can be seen in the video (below), in order to replace the exterior walls, access must be cleared from the interior, and temporary walls built to protect from the elements. The work crews tape office doors during this work to contain any dust.
Scaffolding outside the building has created protective passageways for pedestrians. On March 26, a crane will be installed at the northeast corner of the building and the removal of the outside walls will begin. Throughout the project, the crane will be moved around the building, finishing at the northeast corner in the fall.
The garage, accessed via the laneway between De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Mackay Street, will remain open throughout the construction, though there is a possibility of temporary closures while the crane carries materials overhead. A flagman will assure the safety of the pedestrians and vehicles.
As the work moves around the building’s exterior, occupants will be temporarily relocated. Signage in the lobby and on all floors will indicate changes in office locations. All visitors to the GM Building should verify their destination before setting out. The Facilities Management team will update the online directory as required.
