Employees can now spring ahead
Ask any Concordia staff or faculty member about the advantages of working at the university and you could be listening to the answer for hours. As a university in the heart of one of the country’s most vibrant cities, it isn’t hard to imagine what some of the added benefits to working here are all about.
Starting April 19, Concordians from across the university will have yet another reason to appreciate working here. Human Resources' latest initiative, the Learning and Development Calendar, is a series of workshops designed to help employees grow personally and develop professionally.
"This program is one of the university’s priorities,” says Anna Michetti, Director of Employment and Organizational Effectiveness. “In order to understand exactly what faculty and staff needed and what we could offer, we consulted widely and matched our findings to available resources.” The result is a series of workshops on a range of topics including effective group dynamics, emotional intelligence, work organization, and communication skills. It will start with an initial 14 sessions this spring, but will pick up speed next fall.
“We are looking at offering workshops and training sessions that can help individuals grow in their jobs” says Michetti. “The next set of courses will be delivered under several of the following themes: leadership, cultural sensitivity, strategic planning, time management and workplace wellness. There is tremendous expertise at the university and a thirst for development among our faculty and staff. Our goal is to bring the two together."
More information about the initial schedule of 14 sessions will be available to employees through MyConcordia. From there they can go through the Employee Self Service link and MyHR Profile to Empath for registration details. Upcoming sessions and additions to the program will be publicized through the university portal and the digital screens across campus.
"Our faculty and staff are talented and extremely dedicated," says Carolina Willsher, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources. "One of our goals is to make sure that they have the resources at their disposal to be able to grow and learn both as individuals and as employees. This is about making available the tools to enrich the Concordia experience.”
The workshops are offered at no charge to employees, but space is limited. Registration will require supervisor approval.
