Loyola gets new colours
Loyola Campus will soon be sporting new colours and some spiffy signage that will help guide students, faculty, staff and visitors to where they need to go. This will be particularly important with the upcoming opening of the new genomics and PERFORM centres attracting increased traffic on campus.
“Visitors to the Loyola Campus will soon begin seeing the new campus maps and distinctive signage,” says Facilities Development Manager Dominique Dumont. “It is a project that we have been developing with University Communications for the past eight months and will be rolled out gradually over the next two years. Finding your way on the bustling Loyola Campus has sometimes been a challenge, particularly for visitors, new students and new faculty members. I think that people will find the maps and signage helpful and attractive.”
The campus has been divided into five zones, each with a distinctive colour. The zones reflect natural divisions of the campus based on existing passageways. Colour-coded signs will direct people to the buildings within the respective zone. Sprinkled across the campus will be maps, particularly at the intersections of zones. Special attention has been given to locations that attract the public, such as the library, concert hall and athletic facilities.
The project also prompted a review of the building nomenclature in an effort to simplify and consolidate. In May, the three components of the athletic buildings, the PA (Athletics Complex), PE (Ed Meagher Arena) and PG (Loyola Gym) buildings will be given a common designation of RA.
Another feature of the campus review will be designating exact addresses for the two parking and delivery areas to help drivers locate them.
Finally, a QR (Quick Response) code will appear on all of the campus maps. The square, black and white matrix barcode can be scanned by smartphone cameras that are equipped to automatically direct the user to online information related to the map.
