Concordia appoints Roger Côté Vice-President Services
Concordia University’s Board of Governors today approved the appointment of Roger Côté as Vice-President, Services, effective June 9, 2011.
Côté had been Acting Vice-President, Services, since November 2010, and had also served in that capacity on two previous occasions in 2008 and 2009.
“Roger has leadership and institutional experience ideally suited to fulfilling the important mandate of this position,” says Frederick Lowy, Concordia’s President and Vice-Chancellor. “He is highly regarded by his colleagues and peers for his professionalism and interpersonal skills, and he has a long history of championing progress and innovation in his commitment to the efficient development and operation of the university.”
As Vice-President Services, Côté reports to the president and provides strategic leadership of Concordia’s extensive Services sector. An integral member of the university’s executive group, the VP Services is responsible for leading the implementation of best administrative practices in support of the university’s strategic framework and operational objectives.
Côté has leadership responsibility for Enrolment and Student Services, Facilities Management, Instructional and Information Technology Services, Campus Security, and Environmental Health and Safety. He also has oversight of the university’s insurance portfolio and business operations, including the Campus Retail Stores and Hospitality Services.
“I am very honoured and happy to have been asked to take on this role on a permanent basis,” says Côté. “I am deeply attached to Concordia and its people. I am looking forward to working closely with colleagues and the dedicated members of the Services team to lead the sector in support of the university’s mission and goals.”
Côté joined Concordia in 1981 as Director, Loyola Campus Centre, and has held a series of key management positions since then. He was Director of the Financial Aid and Awards Office from 1984 to 2004, helping direct the distribution of scholarships, bursaries and fellowships to thousands of deserving students.
From 2001 to 2004, he led the Enrolment Management Transformation Project, which successfully implemented enhanced services for Concordia’s enrolment services. Côté has also been Acting Dean of Students and Director of Socio-Economic Services.
In June 2004, he was appointed Executive Director, Enrolment and Student Services and became Associate Vice-President Enrolment and Student Services in 2006. Côté has led or participated in several government consultative bodies, and held leadership roles in professional associations. He has a BA from the Université de Montréal and an MEd from McGill University.
Côté’s appointment is the culmination of an executive search and evaluation process for the position of Vice-President Services that began in early 2011, and which adhered to the university’s statutory policy regarding the appointment of non-academic senior administrators.
