Partners with a Concordia affinity
Since its inception in 2007, Concordia’s Family Fair Day has attracted thousands of Montrealers to Loyola Campus during Homecoming to participate in family-oriented fun and games.
At the same time, countless university students have taken a breather to enjoy some beverages and snacks at the Coffee Study Breaks throughout the April and November exam periods.
And on Thursday, May 17, the Concordia University Alumni Association will celebrate another stellar group of volunteers, donors, students, faculty members and staff at its 21st annual Alumni Recognition Awards Banquet.
What do these and other Advancement and Alumni Relations (AAR) events have in common? They receive vital financial support from Concordia’s affinity partners: TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, Manulife Financial, BMO MasterCard, Voyages Groupe Ideal and Groupe Gabriel.
Concordia alumni receive price breaks from these businesses, which in return reinvest a percentage of their revenues toward several university projects. These include the Backpack to Briefcase Series, the Concordia Shuffle and a host of Homecoming and student mentorship programs, public lectures and other events.
“Our alumni affinity partners play a crucial role in supporting many of our programs,” says Yanick Dahan, coordinator of alumni services and marketing for AAR. “In 2011, our partners contributed about $450,000 that helped fund AAR initiatives.”
The university’s longest affinity partnerships have been with TD Meloche Monnex and Manulife, the sponsors of the Alumni Recognition Awards Banquet.
TD Meloche Monnex allows Concordia alumni access to group rates, enhanced coverage and flexible limits for home and car insurance. Founded in 1949 in Montreal as J. Meloche Inc., the national company offers advice and assistance along with its insurance products, which also include travel and small business coverage.
Alumni can also benefit from low rates on Manulife’s term life, disability and major accident insurance and health and dental plans.
Manulife Financial was founded as the Manufacturers Life Insurance Company in Toronto in 1887, with Sir John A. Macdonald — Canada’s first prime minister — as its president. Today the financial services provider serves customers in 21 countries and territories around the world.
“We are fortunate to be able to join with these highly regarded, well established companies. They provide services that most students, alumni and Concordia community members appreciate and need. At the same time, we reap benefits from their support,” Dahan says. “Everybody wins.”
