Risk management is a valuable practice that enables continuity in the face of unstable financial markets, project failures, and other unforeseeable events within a business environment.

Strategies for the identification and assessment of potential threats to companies and institutions will be the central topic of discussion at this year’s Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) annual conference from Saturday, June 16 to Tuesday, June 19, 2012.

Hosted by Concordia University, the event will feature four days of seminars, workshops and lectures by prominent business professionals, in keeping with this year’s theme Risky Business.

“Each year, the host university gives the conference a personal touch by choosing a theme,” explains Concordia University Treasurer Marc Gauthier. “Concordia is at the forefront of risk management, and economic and social sustainability.”

This year’s conference will highlight risk reduction in a university setting, including keynote lectures by Andrew Molson, chairman of Molson Coors Brewing Company and member of Concordia University’s Board of Governors, and Michel Magnan, accountancy professor with the John Molson School of Business.

The conference will provide professional development opportunities for members of the Concordia community interested in learning more about the intricacies of risk management.

“Networking is the most important aspect of the CAUBO,” says Gauthier. “The association provides a strong network for its members — a forum through which individuals in the field of business can exchange personal challenges and accomplishments, which works towards strengthening the industry as a whole.”

Founded in 1937, CAUBO is a non-profit professional organization that brings together financial and administrative officers from Canadian universities and affiliated colleges. This year, the association celebrates its 75th anniversary.

When: June 16 to 19, 2012
Where: Hilton Montréal Bonaventure, 900 Gauchetière St. W.
