School of Extended Learning hosts international students
From July 15 to 21, Concordia’s School of Extended Learning welcomed 30 undergraduate students from the Rouen Business School. During their week-long stay at Concordia, students participated in a series of educational and cultural activities aimed at furthering their understanding of North American business while getting a taste for Concordia and Montreal.
Why Concordia? “We offer a similar accreditation as Rouen,” explains Hailey Burke of Concordia’s School of Extended Learning who coordinated this year’s Rouen Business School visit. “The program not only offers the opportunity for international students to study business in Montreal, but also provides the experience of academic work at Concordia for students who might be interested in pursuing exchanges or their graduate studies at our institution.”
Their experience at Concordia was three-fold. In the mornings, students attended business seminars that focused on Quebec and North American practices. Topics covered included cross-cultural management and international business enterprises”. In the afternoons, students participated in visits to local companies such as Beyond the Rack. Other visits included the Bell Center as well as a branch office of Montreal’s Ubisoft. In the evenings, students explored Montreal with outings including a dinner cruise on the Bâteau Mouche, an architectural tour of Old Montreal and a soirée at the Just for Laughs theatre.
“What’s unique about the program we offer these students is the three-part aspect of the seminars, corporate visits and outings,” says Burke. “This program is important because we are really striving towards community involvement and international outreach at the School of Extended Learning. Therefore, this is a very meaningful project for us to be involved in.”
Concordia is the second stop on the agenda for these foreign students. They spent last week at Brock University in Ontario where they participated in a similar international business program.
