More than 300 students, family and friends joined Alan Shepard, President and Vice-Chancellor; Lisa Ostiguy, Interim Provost and Vice-President Academic Affairs; and Brian Lewis, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, for the Faculty’s annual Scholars Awards Evening on October 10.

The scholars are students who earned the highest grade point averages in each Arts and Science academic program during the 2011-12 academic year. They are among the top 1 per cent of a remarkable group of 800 students who are on the 2011-12 Dean’s List for having achieved a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Most of the scholars have GPAs closer to the 4.0 range, with 11 students achieving a perfect average of 4.3.

“This evening is about students and a very select group of students,” said Dean Brian Lewis as he congratulated the scholars. “Tonight we are celebrating some absolutely amazing academic accomplishments. Of our 17,000 students, only 177 full-time students, the top 1 per cent in each program, qualify for Scholars Awards.”
