Arts and science students showcase their research

Some 100 undergraduate students from the humanities, social sciences, and the natural and health sciences gathered in the Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre on Friday, March 22  to present their research and showcase their research-creation projects at a daylong event, hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Science.

The 20 professors who served on the adjudication committee vetted posters and oral presentations that covered a range of topics that included: Investigating Linguistics Competence in Autistic Populations through Scope of Negation; Caring for Family Members with Mental Illness: Burden, Control and Depression; and Joint Effect of Landscape Fragmentation and Population Size on Reproductive Success of Brook Trout. The variety exemplified the unique and diverse nature of the Faculty. 

The daylong event has become popular over the years, providing undergraduate students with a rare opportunity to showcase their work in a setting that crosses all of the arts and science disciplines. This year, the students were able to show off their research excellence to the President, Alan Shepard, who took the opportunity to talk to them.

The awards were presented to the delighted winners by Interim Provost Lisa Ostiguy and Brian Lewis, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science.
