Accolades for the week of July 8

Celebrating achievements by Concordians

Sharon Hunter, a communications advisor with University Communication Services, has been appointed to the international executive board of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC); she was also named a trustee of the IABC Foundation. The IABC is a not-for-profit trade association that serves as a professional network for 13,000 business communication professionals in more than 80 countries. The announcement came at the recent 2103 IABC World Conference in New York City.



Sara Fardhesari
, a graduate student in the Department of Design and Computation Arts, was named a 2013 Student Award winner by Applied Arts, a Toronto-based visual communications magazine. Her work will be showcased in the November/December 2013 issue, on the Applied Arts website and at the annual Winners Exhibit, which will be held in November.



Mireille Paquet
, a newly hired professor in the Department of Political Science, has won the John A. Sproul Research Fellowship in Canadian Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. The fellowship is awarded annually to a scholar with interests in Canada who wishes to spend a period of time working at Berkeley. Paquet’s research focuses on provincial immigration integration policy.



David Allen, from Concordia’s campus recycling crew, won a bronze medal at the 2013 Special Olympics Quebec Summer Games. More than 700 athletes participated in the event, which was held in Pointe-Claire from July 4 to 7. Allen and the rest of his team are now waiting to hear if they will be selected to represent Quebec at the 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Vancouver next July.
