Alternative group Metric, which features Concordia alumna Emily Haines, BFA 97, has been shortlisted for this year’s Polaris Prize.

Polaris is a not-for-profit organization that celebrates creativity and diversity in Canadian recorded music. The annual award recognizes albums of the highest artistic integrity, without regard to musical genre, professional affiliation or sales history.

The 2013 winner will receive $30,000; each of the nine remaining finalists receives $2,000. The winner will be announced at a gala in Toronto on September 23, 2013.

The 30 finalists for the Kingston Prize for Canadian Portraiture include Noa Ne’eman, a student of the undergraduate painting and drawing program in Concordia’s Department of Studio Arts; Tammy Salzl, an MFA student in studio arts; and Ian Shatilla, MFA 08.

The Kingston Prize was founded in 2005 to encourage contemporary Canadian portraitists. It is a biennial national competition.

An exhibition of work by the finalists will be on display at the Firehall Theatre in Gananoque, Ont., from October 4 to 20, and at the Art Gallery of Calgary from November 2 to December 21. The winner will be announced on November 1.

Silvia Ugolini
, director of Planned Giving at Advancement and Alumni Relations, was recognized for her six-year contribution as a member of the board of directors of the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF).

As an elected IQPF representative, Ugolini served the maximum of three consecutive mandates. Her contribution was celebrated at the IQPF annual Congress at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City on June 6.

The IQPF is the only organization in Quebec that is authorized to grant financial planning diplomas and establish professional development criteria. Only professionals recognized by the IQPF are authorized to use the title "financial planner."
