Elevators in Guy-Metro Building to be upgraded
People using the elevators in the Guy-Metro (GM) Building have been having some interesting rides this summer. Waiting for the elevator to reach a floor has sometimes resulted in an unexpected stop, or a trip to the 11th floor and then back down to the lobby level. The unplanned displacements are the result of the elevator cycles being reset.
“Facilities Management is aware of this issue and we are monitoring this situation; however, I can assure people that the elevators are safe,” says Associate Vice-President, Facilities Management, Peter Bolla.
He says outside experts were hired a few months ago to design a technical solution that would solve the issue of the elevators resetting their cycle. Work is now underway on implementing the solution.
Bolla also said that the GM Building elevators will be upgraded, beginning in December.
“We will close one elevator at a time to do the repairs, which we estimate will take approximately three months per elevator,” says Bolla. “Our goal is to have all four fully functional and upgraded by next fall.”
