Don’t be alarmed: it’s Fire Safety Awareness time
Concordia is currently running fire drills on both campuses. From September 16 to 27, Fire Safety Awareness is a priority in all university-owned buildings, as well as the Faubourg (FG) Building.
“With many new students, faculty, and staff at Concordia, it is important that we train the university community on our various safety procedures,” says Normand Lanthier, fire/public safety officer for Environmental Health and Safety.
“Individuals may know what to do in the event of a fire at home, but when it comes to a space like the university, with many different entrances and exits, it is easy to get confused if you are not well prepared.”
As a result, the university — in compliance with the National Fire Code of Canada — hosts annual Fire Safety Awareness weeks in September.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to check out Concordia’s emergency procedures video. Information about safety seminars will also be posted on Concordia.ca in the coming weeks. The seminars will focus on emergency procedures for specific situations: chemical safety, fire safety, radiation safety and so on.
