Board ratifies three collective agreements

Agreements-in-principle ratified

At its meeting on October 16, Concordia’s Board of Governors ratified agreements-in-principle reached with the United Steel Workers (USW), Local Section 9538, Sir George Williams, and with USW, Local Section 9538, Loyola.

It also ratified the agreement-in-principle reached with the Concordia University Professional Employees Union (CUPEU).

All agreements will be posted on Concordia’s website in English and French once signed by all parties.

CFO’s term extended

The board approved the extension of Chief Financial Officer Patrick Kelley’s term until December 31, 2014.

University finances

The board approved the financial statements for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2013, as reported by Concordia’s external auditors Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton. In a separate motion, the board also approved all inter-fund transfers disclosed in the financial statements. Read more.

The university must annually transmit to the Government of Quebec its État de traitement (statement of salaries) for all of its senior administrators. The board approved the submission of the État de traitement for the 2012-13 academic year. 

President’s report

Concordia’s President Alan Shepard informed the board that the Government of Quebec has announced plans to invest $3.7 billion over the next five years in research and innovation. “The funding is across a number of different sectors that Concordia has real strengths in,” he said. “We’ll be looking at those opportunities quite closely in the weeks and months to come.”

In his written report presented to the Board of Governors, Shepard announced that Michael Sabia, CEO of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, has accepted to serve as honorary president of the 82nd ACFAS Congress, to be held at Concordia in May, 2014. Read more.

Chair Norman Hébert, Jr., presented the Board’s annual report, which features a review of major accomplishments undertaken during the 2012-13 year. Read more.
