Condolences are being expressed for Concordia Board of Governors member Jacques Lyrette, who passed away on November 18.
“On behalf of our entire Concordia community, I extend my deepest sympathies to Jacques’s family, friends and colleagues,” says Board Chair Norman Hébert Jr. “He will be remembered as a visionary who was devoted to research, higher education and our university.”
Lyrette, PEng, MEng, FCAE, was appointed to Concordia’s Board of Governors in November 2011. A Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE), he was admired for his distinguished career in research development in the public sector; notably for his work as a top administrator at Canada’s National Research Council who focused on technology and communications.
More recently, as president and chief executive officer of Gestion Jacma Management, Lyrette applied his deep knowledge of federal and provincial policy to help organizations develop business models and strategies. He was also chief operating officer of Innovative Materials Technologies and chief executive officer of ADGA Group, an engineering consulting company with offices in Canada and overseas.
Lyrette was chair of the Industrial Advisory Council Committee for Concordia’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, and a long-serving director at CANEUS, a non-profit organization of professionals dedicated to the coordinated, international development of micro-and nanotechnologies for aerospace and defence applications.
The university's flags were lowered to half-mast on November 19.
