Does your supervisor make a point of highlighting health and safety measures? Do you know of a committee on campus with a safety pledge? How about a colleague who champions the importance of laboratory safety, or who has helped do away with unsound work practices?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) wants to hear from you.

To celebrate individuals and groups that promote safe work practices at Concordia, EHS is inaugurating Concordia’s first annual Safety Recognition Awards. The awards will spotlight initiatives that improve, inspire or maintain best practices at the university.

Nominees may highlight:

  • The development and implementation of a solution to a health and safety issue (both product- and process-based solutions are eligible)
  • An engineering innovation
  • A training program
  • An activity that raises awareness of safety issues
  • Other measures that reduce the risk of injury and illness among members of the university community

Two awards will be presented this year: one to a safety committee, and one to a safety ambassador.

The Safety Committee Recognition Award

This award is presented to a group within a department, unit or faculty. It recognizes a significant contribution to the improvement of health and safety in the committee’s area, or across the university.

The award includes a $500 prize that will go towards a safety initiative.

Safety Ambassador Recognition Award

This award is presented to a student or a faculty/staff member in recognition of a significant contribution to the improvement of health and safety within their department or faculty, or across the university. This may include integrating health and safety practices into teaching or research activities.

The award consists of an inscribed plaque and a $300 prize that will help fund a safety initiative.
