On October 5, during the official opening of this year’s edition of the Entretiens du Centre Jacques Cartier, Concordia president Alan Shepard was awarded a medal in recognition of the university’s support of the Centre’s work.

Its mission is to develop the relationship between Quebec and France. Shepard was among a distinguished group of leaders receiving the honour from educational, cultural and political spheres in Quebec.

The Centre Jacques Cartier was founded in 1984 in Lyon. Its objective was to provide a meeting place for people working in the domains of science, politics, culture, economics and the university milieu in order to develop exchanges between France, Quebec and Canada. Partnerships with additional countries in Europe and other continents were developed over the years.

The Centre organizes an annual academic conference, Les Entretiens du Centre Jacques Cartier, that draws together more than 80 partners from around the globe to share the latest research findings.

This year’s Entretiens continue through October 10 in Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Ottawa, Ho Chi Minh City and Haiti.
